ILLUMINATI, ILLUMINISM AND ILLUMINATION
Barry Seabourne

The concept of 'Illumination' refers to a certain kind of enlightenment that recently has become associated with fiction and conspiracy theories. Dan Brown created the 'Illuminati' as an infamous secret group intent on revenge against the Catholic Church. The 1970's science fiction novel 'Illuminatus' popularised the spread of conspiracy theories with the idea that there are sinister and powerful groups intent on world domination.

In truth the term illumination goes back thousands of years. It is associated with the ultimate spiritual search of many major world religions and esoteric groups. Barry Seabourne examines the history, myth and reality that lay behind what may be one of the more vital cosmic journeys available to humanity - the quest for true illumination.

Barry Seabourne is a former Head of the School of Art and Design at Salisbury College. He is the President of the International Society of Philosophy. The International Society focusses on Utopian philosophy, psychology, science, spirtuality and the philosophy of illuminsim and illumination.
